Student Travel Support
The European Cetacean Society (ECS) is committed to supporting student participation in its annual conference. To help students with limited financial resources attend the event, the ECS offers a number of travel grants to contribute towards travel and accommodation expenses.
These grants are intended for students with an accepted abstract who may otherwise face financial difficulties attending the conference.
Funding is limited, and the amount awarded will depend on the number of applications received and the available budget. We encourage students to explore additional funding opportunities through their universities, research institutions, scientific journals, and other organisations.
Please note that travel grants will only be awarded to applicants who are officially registered and attend the conference.
How and when to apply?
Applications are now open!
The application period runs from 3 November to 1 December 2026.
To apply for Student Travel Support, please send an email to the ECS Student Representative with the subject line "Student Travel Support ECS 2027".
For any questions regarding Student Travel Support, please contact the ECS Student Representative.
Student Volunteering
Student volunteers play an essential role in the success of every ECS Conference, supporting the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and helping participants throughout the event. Volunteering is also a great opportunity for students to gain valuable experience, meet new people, and actively contribute to the conference while receiving free conference registration.
Volunteering is required for about a third of your time at the conference, including workshop days. Volunteer shifts may include assistance for registrations, guiding participants, assisting LOC in specific tasks, and other services during talk and poster sessions, etc.
The student volunteers will be coordinated by the Student Representative of the ECS Local Organising Committee and the Student Representative in Council.
Who can apply?
ECS Student Members with a valid membership for the year of the conference are eligible to volunteer. Students who are not yet members may also apply but will be required to become ECS members if selected. More info about your student membership here.
How and when to apply?
Applications for Student Volunteers will open on 11 January 2027.
Further details about the application process will be provided in due course.
Applicants for both programmes will be notified of the selection results on 15 February 2027.
For any further questions on student matters, please contact the ECS Student Representative
