ECS mentoring program
Following the 35th ECS student AGM meeting (Catania, Sicily), we are starting the first ECS Mentoring program!
The objective of the program is to:
- Provide help to newcomers to navigate the ECS conference.
- Facilitate connections with peers in your research topic, but also with others from different regions and/or research topic.
- Build a supportive network to make the conference experience more inclusive and pleasant for both newcomers and "veterans".
- Encourage the assistance between newcomers and "veterans" in practising for their talks or poster presentations.
It is your first ECS and you wish to be mentored?
If it is your first ECS conference and you would like to be mentored, meaning that you want to meet new people and receive advice from previous ECS conference attendees, you can send an email to the student representative. He will put you in contact with mentors who, by sharing their experiences and information from past conferences, want to help newcomers like you!
You wish to “mentor” an ECS newcomer?
If you have already been to at least one ECS conference and you would like mentor a newcomer, simply check "I would like to be a student mentor for this conference" on the registration form. The student representative will put you in contact with the newcomers who want to receive help and advice from mentors like you, ensuring an even better ECS conference experience for all!
But it does not stop there!
Initially the program was developed by students, for students, but quickly it became apparent that actually the desire for a mentoring programme goes beyond students and people who are attending for the first time!
At the 37th Conferene in Dundee we will hold a lunchtime discussion session where we will discuss what people might like from a mentorship programme through the ECS. If you are interested in mentoring, being mentored, have thoughts and would like to contribute to shaping this programme, or just want to hear what it is all about - please do come along on Thursday the 23rd April at the ECS in Dundee 13:30 - 14:30.
