22nd Conference, Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands, 2008

The 22nd Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society was organised in The Netherlands (Egmond aan Zee) in the week of 10-12 March 2008. Workshops were commenced 8-9 March. The main title was

"MARINE MAMMALS IN TIME: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE"

The Conference was hosted in The Netherlands (Hotel Zuiderduin in Egmond aan Zee) in the week of 10-12 March 2008.

PAST

palaeontology, archaeology, evolution, 16th-17th century whaling or research (strandings)

PRESENT

forgotten science: lab and museum basic research, taxonomy, anatomy, 20th centary whaling and tourism

FUTURE

climate change, effects on populations and food, monitor species. The emphasis is on the less sexy but very basic research.
