EUROPEAN CETACEAN SOCIETY
19th ANNUAL CONFERENCE
La Rochelle, France, 2-7 April, 2005
The 19th Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society took
place in
La Rochelle in April 2005 and was hosted by
Vincent
Ridoux.
The theme of the conference was:
"MARINE AMMAL AND FOOD:
FROM ORGANISMS
TO ECOSYSTEMS"
Primary sponsoring was by the University of La Rochelle
(Laboratoire de Biologie et Environnement Marins, Centre de
Recherche sur les Mammifères Marins, Institut du Littoral et
de l’Environnement), in co-operation with the Centre d’Etudes
Biologiques de Chizé, CNRS.
The conference was situated in the renewed and spacious former fish
market, bordering on the museum harbour. Starting with a reception
with loads of oysters you felt like a marine mammal, on top of the
fabulous La Rochelle aquarium. Luxurious is the description that
comes to my mind.

The maritime museum harbour with on the left the Aquarium (with the
oysters on top!) and behind it the white conference centre. So sorry
I couldn't get one of those 60' racers out to sea.

As on all conferences the people that do the most but tend to be
forgotten: the students doing all the supporting tasks. We, the ECS
members, will allways remember you because you're what makes a
conference such a success. Here they are donning their own unique
T-shirts.
Also introduced at this conference were the sturdy ECS
jackets in dark blue with white logo.
