EUROPEAN CETACEAN SOCIETY
18th ANNUAL CONFERENCE
Kolmården, Sweden, 28-31 March, 2004
The 18th Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society took
place in
Kolmården in March 2004 and was hosted by
Mats
Amundin, organised in co-operation with the Fjord&Bælt,
Kerteminde, DK and Age Dynamics, Kongens Lyngby, DK.
The theme of the conference was:
"EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES
TO MARINE
MAMMAL RESEARCH"
Primary sponsoring was by the Kolmårdens Djurpark (Wild
Animal Park).
The Kolmården conference was different. Being organised
inside a zoo with a delphinarium the organisors did not expect to
see so many participants. It was most worthwhile to get the subject
of ethics addressed in a broad scope during the conference. This
very much sets the tune for the society's role for the coming
period: aiding scientists in Europe addressing complex societal and
emotional questions about their research.
The setting of the conference was also very different in other
ways: hotel integrated conference centre, late winter surroundings.
Nowhere to go but fascinating surroundings. And a disco and DJ that
both kept us up until very early...
